The Transition Assistance Program provides information, resources, and tools to service members and their loved ones to help prepare for the move from military to civilian life. Service members begin TAP one year prior to separation or two years prior to retiring

Nebraska residents who are members of a Nebraska-based unit of the Active Selected Reserve may be eligible for a 75% tuition credit (or 50% if pursuing a graduate or professional degree) to University of Nebraska campuses, Nebraska state colleges, and Nebraska community colleges.

Dependents of eligible veterans can apply to have up to 100% of their tuition charges and tuition-related fees to the University of Nebraska campuses, Nebraska state colleges, and Nebraska community colleges waived.

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a government organization at any level or a non-profit organization

The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act can postpone or suspend financial or civil obligations to prevent you from being taken advantage of while on active duty and away from home. Protection begins on the date of entering active duty and generally terminates within 30 to 90 days after discharge.

The Yellow Ribbon Program can help you pay for higher out-of-state, private school, or graduate school tuition that the Post 9/11 GI Bill doesn’t cover.

Operation Recognition awards honorary high school diplomas to veterans who left school to serve their country during WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, and did not complete their education after their release from service.

The American Council on Education evaluates armed service training and provides recommendations on equivalent educational credit. See if your military training can be applied as credit at a college or university.
