Patriotic Parade & Concert: Honoring our Nation's Gold Star Families & Veterans

When: May 28, 2021, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Downtown Omaha, Nebraska

Patriotic Productions is inviting the public to a Patriotic Parade & Concert that honors Gold Star Families and Veterans. Our nation's Gold Star Families will be honored as they lead this parade in Downtown Omaha. All Gold Star Family members are welcome from any era and will receive a t-shirt to wear (must RSVP).

The parade will begin at 12th & Jackson in Downtown Omaha. The parade will then move east to 10th Street, and turn south toward the Durham Museum, where a concert will be held following the parade. Performances by Lee Greenwood and Grateful Heart.

If you are a Gold Star Family Member and wish to walk in the parade to represent your fallen loved one, please email your fallen loved one's name, along with the names and t-shirt sizes of those attending to info@rememberingourfallen.org

LB 387 Hearing

100% - take it to 100

The Revenue Committee will be holding a hearing on LB 387 on Friday, January 29th, at 1:30 p.m. in Hearing Room 1524 at the Nebraska State Capitol.

LB 387 would build on LB 153, passed in 2019, and increase the tax exemption on military retirement pay from 50% to 100%.

The Legislature has implemented additional methods for the public to provide feedback on legislative bills. Learn about them here.

The most impactful ways to show support are by 1) testifying in person at the hearing or by 2) submitting written testimony the morning of the hearing. If you choose option 2, please be sure to follow all instructions carefully.

Boots-to-Fill Job Fair

The Nebraska Department of Labor's Boots to Fill Veteran Initiative is having an in-person Job Fair/Hiring Event Monday, September 14, 2020. The job fair will be open to veterans, military spouses, military dependents, and the general public. However, Priority of Service will be given to veterans.

Department of Veterans' Affairs Blood Drive

Location: Department of Veterans' Affairs VA Regional Office, 3800 Village Drive, Lincoln

Nebraska Community Blood Bank is asking community members to give thanks this November by rolling up a sleeve and making a life-saving donation. Plus, all presenting donors during November will be automatically entered to win a free movie package from AMC or Marcus Theatres, including tickets and concessions. Donors can visit NCBB.ORG/TICKETS for more information.

Nearly 100% of the blood donated with Nebraska Community Blood Bank is transfused to patients in Nebraska hospitals. Blood donors of all types, especially type O, are urgently needed to step up and replenish the dangerously low blood supply. You may be eligible to donate blood if you are:

• In good health

• 17 years or older—16 with written parental consent (PDF)

• Free of antibiotics for 24 hours, unless taken for preventative reasons

• Symptom-free for at least 72 hours following a cold or flu

While walk-in donors are always welcome, we encourage donors to make appointments in advance. Visit NCBB.ORG or call 1-877-486-9414 to make an appointment today at your local donor center.
